Dear Acolytes and Parents of Acolytes at St. Martin’s,

We are excited to announce a few new changes to the way we will organize and coordinate the acolyte ministry at St. Martin’s.  A few small changes that will happen right away:

    • We’ll ask you to send us dates you cannot serve, and we’ll then create a schedule for everyone to follow that spreads the participation across the calendar in a balanced way. Other liturgical ministries (ushers, altar guild, and lectors) follow this system and we trust it will be helpful for you to be assigned dates when you are needed and arrange for substitutes if a conflict arises. You’ll soon receive an email asking for the dates that do not work and your service preference.
    • Recruiting more parishioners (young and old!) to be part of this ministry. We have a particular needs for the 11:15 service but we know that many hands make light work. So connect with others in the community and let them know how much special it is to be part of this ministry. The Ministry Fair on Sunday, September 17th will give us a chance to share in person with anyone who is considering joining us.

Down the road we look forward to:

    • Training for new acolytes (both torches and crucifer) in the fall.
    • Getting all acolytes together to get to know one another better and celebrate!
    • Establishing a path for recognition and leadership development for the younger folks as they move through their years of ministry at St. Martin’s.
    • Ongoing training for torchbearers, crucifers and thurifers.

Thank you so much for your ongoing commitment of time and attention to the acolyte ministry!
Sincerely,

Pam Prell and Connie Haggard
