Christian Formation

Opportunities for Young People (7-12)

Building on the foundation acquired in the church school program, St Martin’s adolescents begin to engage reason as they attempt to live with Christian moral values in a culture that does not always support that. To aid that process, we use the ‘Journey to Adulthood’ program for students in grades 7 and 8 while the Youth Forum is designed around topics and issues of interest to the participants. In addition to Sunday mornings, there will be periodic gatherings for other activities including overnights, movies, opportunities for community service, and events with other young people from around the Diocese.

Grades 7 & 8 - Rite 13

The Rite 13 curriculum assists young people as they take the first steps of passage away from their families and into their own lives. During these two years, the community acknowledges the gift of gender, celebrates the amazing creative power and potential for these young people, and creates a safe haven for young people to explore and question their beliefs. The Rite 13 leaders are Susan Davis, Cheryl Irving, and Jim Sicks.

Grades 9-12 - Youth Forum

The Youth Forum takes the baptismal covenant as its framework, inviting participants to explore the ethical and faith dimensions of current issues facing both the world as a whole and students’ lives in particular. The Youth Forum leaders are Dick Dupuis, Pam Hill, and Barbara Previdi.

Acolytes

To serve as an Acolyte is an important ministry that young people can offer in the worship and fellowship at St Martin’s. Young people 3rd or 4th grade and above who are interested in serving as acolytes should contact Connie Haggard, Coordinator of Liturgical Ministries, or The Rev. Callie Swanlund, Associate for Formation and Family Ministry. Training is offered on an as-needed basis for new acolytes.
