Opportunities for Children

10:00 Sunday Mornings - Register by September 19.

Infant and Toddler Child Care

Professional child care is provided on Sundays throughout the year. During the program year, the nursery is open from 8:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The caregivers are Barbara Bredell and Cassandra Harris. Child care is located in the undercroft (basement) of the church; stairs are located at the northwest corner of the church.

Preschool & Kindergarten - Godly Play

Three, four, and five-year-olds are welcomed into a lively, nurturing environment that engages their imagination and senses through stories, songs, activities, and play. The teachers for this class are Mimi Fleming, Erin Horvat, Pam Prell, and Lea Stanley.

Grade 1 & 2 - Patchwork

Building on last year’s foundation in Old Testament stories, first and second graders participate in a hands-on curriculum as they continue to explore God’s love for us through the story of Jesus. The teachers for this class are: Barbara Baumgartner, Kim Leach, and Linda Schebel; assistant: Sally Cooke.

Grades 3 & 4 - Book of Books

The Book of Books provides a ‘hands on’ look at how the Bible came into being, what is in the Bible, and what the Bible has to say to us today. An archeological dig is a fun addition to the curriculum. Students will also have a chance to ‘try on’ the different genres in the Bible. The teachers for this class are Janet Anderson, Sandra Gould, Joan Mechlin, and Scott Robinson.

Grades 5 & 6 - What Is a Church?

Fifth and sixth graders engage in a lively adventure, exploring the meaning of faith and the mission of the church. Throughout the year, the class will create a church and wrestle with such decisions as the church’s mission and ministry priorities, worship, allocation and use of space, budgets, and issues affecting community life. During this process, the class will be interacting with real parishioners at St. Martin’s and participating in an outreach project. The teachers for this class are Leigh Ashbrook, Hap Kessler, and Mike Skinner.

St. Martin’s Chorister Training Program

St. Martin-in-the-Fields has a strong tradition of choral music. Boys and girls, beginning in the second or third grades, who are interested in singing are invited to enter the Chorister Training Program. No audition is required, although children entering the program should be able to read. Rehearsals are Wednesday afternoons, 4:00 - 5:30.
